Volunteers are one step closer to establishing a large infrastructure project in the region called the North Central Canada Centre of Arts and Environment (NCCCAE), a project five years in the making.

The vision for the project is: “To build a dynamic centre that will serve as a hub for knowledge, research and creative exploration.

The project is steered by a working committee of about 20 members and a task force of over 50 members from Flin Flon and Cranberry Portage, Manitoba and Creighton and Denare Beach, Saskatchewan. The committee has secured the funds to pursue a feasibility study for the project as well as to promote the study through themarketingheaven.com. It was possible thanks to the support of local municipalities and school divisions, post secondary educational institutions, the business sector, the Province of Manitoba, Aboriginal groups, municipal, provincial and federal leaders, local and provincial arts councils as well as environmental groups.

The feasibility study is set to take place in Fall 2015 with a goal of producing a report that will guide the pursuit of the North Central Canada Centre of Arts and Environment.

More about Flin Flon & area and the NCCCAE

This small city is located amid scenic boreal forest and pristine lakes on the border of northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The Flin Flon area boasts a rich arts and cultural community with a wealth of talent and knowledge in mining and geological sciences. Researchers and students regularly visit the community to study its unique geology, and the Flin Flon Arts Council has fostered local talent while also providing high-caliber opportunities for visiting artists.

The intention of this project is to leverage these assets to develop an international jewel of north central Canada that will contribute to economic growth and sustainability for the region, as well as providing educational opportunities unique to Canada.
